Birthday Succulent Planter

This quick and easy DIY project can be done with any container and any combination of plants that share similar growing conditions and requirements. I bought this planter on sale at Anthropologie over the holidays, along with another similar one I have plans to use for another gift later this year. They were inexpensive, super cute and they’ll make lovely presents for anyone — depending on what you fill them with, a green thumb isn’t even required.

What you’ll need:

Planter Container

Succulent Plants

Potting soil mix for succulents

Water if necessary

Small trowel or spoon

Steps:

Decide how many succulents can fit in your planter; for this planter I decided on three.

Decide how many succulents can fit in your planter; for this planter I decided on three.

Purchase plants from your purveyor of choice along with a small bag of potting soil for succulents. The solid choice is important because succulents use a looser, drier soil than traditional house plants.Fill the planter two thirds of the way, then decide on an arrangement for your plants. Loosen the soil at the roots if there is an excess and place them in your planter. Surround with soil to reach planter brim. Water if necessary.

Voila! You’ve got an easy DIY gift that will look fantastic and be cost-effective — this one was only about $15 to put together!
